We were thrilled to learn that pianist Donna Weng Friedman – one of our favorite artists – was a member of the team behind the release of MICROVIDS, a new work with music and words created by Stefania de Kenessey. from Navona Records. Other members of the remarkable team behind MICROVIDS include six-time Grammy nominated violinist Curtis Stewart, Tony award-winning star Krystal Joy Brown from “Hamilton” on Broadway and “Merrily We Roll Along,” not to mention the New Jersey Youth Symphony, led by Maestra Helen Cha-Pyo.
We have now listened, we love it, and we are pleased to let you know that you can now listen to MICROVIDS here on Classical Archives.
What is MICROVIDS?
Navona Records’ statement says, “When the world is shrouded in darkness, the smallest flashes of light can seem as bright as the sun. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, composer Stefania de Kenessey sought to illuminate the future for young musicians and penned MICROVIDS, a modern take on Bartók’s Mikrokosmos. The 19 impactful and emotionally uplifting piano miniatures are accompanied by short, hopeful poems, which match the music’s goal of inspiring the next generation of musicians.”
MICROVIDS is presented in three distinct formats on different disks, all available for you to hear on Classical Archives:
- Piano with improvisations by six-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated violinist Curtis Stewart, whose artistry adds new layers of color and spontaneity.
