Jeffrey Biegel: A Short Biography
Jeffrey Biegel is known for his virtuosity and deep insight into all genres of classical music of the past, but also for his collaborations with many of the most important contemporary composers of today. Born in 1961, Jeffrey’s early life was marked by a significant challenge: he was nearly deaf until he had corrective surgery at the age of three. This experience profoundly influenced his deep connection to music.
At Juilliard, Jeffrey studied under Adele Marcus, who helped him discover his distinctive style, technique and sound. Over the years, he has become a prolific performer, recording artist, and educator.
One of his notable achievements includes the Grammy-winning recording of Kenneth Fuchs’s Piano Concerto: Spiritualist with the London Symphony Orchestra. He is also known for many innovative projects, including the creation of the Peanuts Concerto by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. In many ways, he has been a leader in bridging the gap between classical and popular music genres.
Jeffrey is a dedicated teacher involved in many educational initiatives. His contributions to music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Moravian College.
Jeffrey, who travels the world to perform, was born in Queens, New York, where he still lives today.
