There are many videos on YouTube that show Arthur Rubinstein playing.

There are videos of the legendary recital that he gave in Warsaw in 1966, of the recital he gave in Pasadena to benefit Israel, and a good number more.

But in my opinion, the one that best captures the Rubinstein magic is a performance of the Mendelssohn d-Minor Piano Trio. In this video, he is joined by two titans of the last century: violinist Jascha Heifetz and cellist Gregor Piatigorsky. Sparks fly during this performance, as you would imagine. But to my eyes and ears, Rubinstein steals the show. The music seems to jump right out of him. Even the way he turns the pages conveys magic.

What do you think? Are there other videos you know that so amply display the magic of this pianist? If you have others to nominate for the Rubinstein magical playing list, I hope you will take a moment and post a comment below.
